Job overview

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust.  This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period.  This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust and have not been an employee of the Trust in the previous 3 years.  This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.

An opportunity has arisen for a registered Pharmacy Technician to join our ward based teams.

Working closely with our clinical pharmacists and other healthcare professionals the successful candidate will help provide a quality pharmacy service to wards and departments across the Trust. 

 

Main duties of the job

Main duties will include medicines reconciliation, assessing the suitability of patients’ own drugs, ordering named patient medication and supporting audit and quality improvement initiatives. There will be regular dispensary slots which include final accuracy checking plus the supervision and training of new and pre-registration staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work across the organisation but being based at Highbury Hospital, Lings Bar Hospital,  Blossomwood (formerly Millbrook Mental Health Unit) or Sherwood Oaks to be discussed at interview. Specialities covered will include AMH, MHSOP, CAMHS and physical healthcare.  A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is therefore required; however reasonable adjustments will be made for individuals as necessary in line with the Equality Act 2010.

You should have post qualification experience of working in a hospital pharmacy. Experience in a mental health setting is desirable but not essential as full training and support will be given.

  • NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Registration Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous varied NHS hospital experience at AFC band 4 or above
  • Evidence of ongoing training and personal development.
  • Evidence of leading and/or responsible for delivering a service/function/project or development
  • Effective stock control
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience using pharmacy computer systems (CMM)
  • Named patient ordering
  • Medicines reconciliation
  • Checking technician or working towards accreditation
  • Experience of patient counselling
