Job overview
We are currently looking for a Health Care Support Worker to join our dedicated team on our busy ward.
Ward 24 is a mixed medical ward which accommodates a variety of specialties mainly Haematology, Cardiology and Respiratory where patients are treated for a variety of acute conditions. Ward 24 is a modern 24 bedded clinical area with en-suite facilities for 12 single rooms.
We have a well-established medical team which we work with daily and ward based multidisciplinary staff to provide the patients with patient centred care.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure outstanding patient care. This will be a challenging and exciting opportunity and will enable the individual to develop new and existing skills. It will involve a mixture of both day shifts and night shifts.
We have a very friendly well-established nursing team who are dedicated to sharing their skills and knowledge with new and junior staff.
We have an excellent clinical area with many possibilities for staff to progress professionally and as a team we regularly arrange for ward events to celebrate achievements both professionally and personally.

Essential criteria
- Flexible approach
- Able to work flexibly on a varied shift pattern according to the roster including nights and weekends
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate clear and robust verbal and written English communication skills
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Previous care work experience
- Previous face-to-face customer care experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a hospital setting
Further Training
Essential criteria
- Able to attend a 5-day Clinical Induction
- Committed to attending further training and development as identified
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ 2 in care or willingness to work towards
- Educated to a good standard of general education equivalent to GCSE Maths & English level C or above
- Care Certificate or commitment to achieving within 2 weeks of commencement
Desirable criteria
- “Care Certificate” qualification
- NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care Certificate/
Knowledge Requirements
Essential criteria
- Must understand basic requirements for individualised personal care
- Recognise people’s right to privacy and dignity, treating every person with respect
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of Safeguarding issues

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
