Job overview

A full-time pharmacist  post working as a deputy divisional lead pharmacist in the Urgent and Emergency care  (U&EC) team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to invest in a specialist clinical pharmacist to work as deputy divisional lead within the Urgent and Emergency care  team within the Trust.  This individual will undergo training to enable them to provide a high standard of clinical pharmacy support to a number of high-risk medication areas.

As part of the Pharmacy (U&EC)  team you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to patient care on a variety of wards within the U+EC division
  • Attend the Short Stay Unit consultant lead ward rounds
  • Work within the Front door frailty team to conduct medication reviews and deprescribing
  • Work alongside the discharge team to coordinate urgent discharges
  • Participate in service improvement projects within the U+EC wards

This post will suit pharmacists who have already developed excellent clinical skills and knowledge and who are looking to put these into practice within a more specialised clinical environment with the support of highly specialised clinical pharmacists.  To be able to meet this challenge the ideal candidates should have excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn and develop an expertise in these clinical areas and a passion for evidence based, patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

Our pharmacy department is committed to the training and development of all staff and as part of this post you will be given the opportunity to gain experience in the various domains of the RPS Professional Standards for Hospital Pharmacy Services in order to develop the skills and knowledge required to progress your career further. You will also be given the opportunity to gain the independent prescribing qualification. You will help further develop the pharmacy service within this broad clinical area with opportunities to participate in a wide range of tasks such as:

  • lead a team of pharmacists and MMTs within the division.
  • participate in specialist clinical governance meetings within the division as a deputy to the divisional lead.
  • provide training to non-pharmacy staff within the division
  • risk assessment for safe medicines practice,
  • input into relevant clinical guidelines,
  • clinical audit,
  • medicines expenditure analysis.
