Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or Registered General Nurse (RGN) at Newark  hospital within the theatre department. 

We are seeking  enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to join our well-established team of practitioners who possess experience  in scrub duties, and /or Anaesthetic / recovery skills.  We have   3  day case theatres at  Newark, along with a minor operations suite and procedure room. . Our areas of coverage encompass various specialties including  Breast, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, General,  Elective Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, dermatology and Pain management. Your responsibilities will also include an on call commitment intra/inter-hospital transfers.  On occasion, you may be asked to work at our Kings Mill Hospital site.

Moreover, staff development is a top priority for us. You will collaborate closely with the Clinical Educator and speciality leads to facilitate training in accordance with NMC/HCP standards and codes. This ensures that competency packs and our skills matrix remain current and up to date.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good communication skills with clear written and oral skills.
  • Evidence of effective organisation abilities and supervisory skills

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1 st level NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC registered ODP at either degree or diploma level
  • Clear evidence of Continued professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Anaesthetic module for registered RGN's
  • ILS / ALS
  • IV Competent

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or degree in operating department practice
  • Degree level Registered Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of personal and professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in the peri-operative environment
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship or an equivalent qualification
  • Dual role – Anaesthetics and scrub
  • Orthopaedic Scrub experience

Contractual

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work across sites when necessary
  • Ability to contribute to the on-call rota and work unsociable hours
  • Adhere to the NMC code or the HCPC conduct, performance, and ethics standard
