We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate band 6 Breast Cancer Nurses to join our ever expanding service in a substantive capacity.  The applicant is required to be caring, innovative, supportive, flexible and have cancer and/or breast experience.

The applicant will have excellent time management skills and will promote the CARE values and strategic priorities.

As a breast nurse you will be able expected to support the specialist Breast care nurses to deliver and implement changes to clinical practice as required to ensure our patients are supported throughout their journey.

You will be required to assist with administering medications,  wound care, Holistic need assessments, triaging patients, injection clinics and supporting patients psychological needs.  You will be required to develop and maintain your professional development within the team and encourage and support colleagues in the area.

You will have a central role in the Breast Service Team, working closely with medical and nursing colleagues; providing specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management of patients with malignant and non-malignant primary and advanced breast disease and related conditions. Ensuring the patients and carers receive holistic, multi-faceted support, co-ordinated care, and all the information they need, throughout the course of their illness.

You will be required to support the Breast nurse specialists to actively plan, implement and evaluate expert nursing care and provide specialist  advice and Psychosocial support to patients and carers with breast cancer across a range of settings within the Trust.

We are a highly motivated team who have achieved high standards of quality patient care are responsible for the support and care of adult Breast  patients within the catchment area of Sherwood Forest Hospitals (NHS) Trust.

You will assist the team to deliver safe, effective patient care.  You will be expected to contribute to the team to help achieve GIRFT guidelines.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

The successful candidate will work with the Breast care nurse specialists to support and manage a caseload of patients presenting with Breast Cancer whilst working as part of the multi-professional team and maintaining responsibility and accountability for all elements of professional nursing practice.

They will act as the patients’ advocate and be able to assist the specialist nurses to educate on all the treatment options to maximise the involvement of patients and their carers in all relevant decisions to enable a patient to make an informed choice. They will assist to negotiate with nursing and medical staff and professionals allied to medicine, ensuring effective development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care for patients within the Breast speciality to agree a pathway of care.

Support clinics undertaking tissue expansion, seromas, wound reviews drain removals, as well as drop in clinics for patients with psychological issues

They will deliver injection clinics alongside another registered nurse

They will assist the breast care specialist nurses to deliver the patient stratified follow up clinics

They will support the Family History Clinic for Breast Cancer in accordance with NICE guidelines, and Nottingham protocols. The service has recently been taken over by the NHSBSP.

The successful candidate will maintains effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure seamless service delivery.

They will maximise opportunities to improve nursing care and the environment in which care is delivered by maintaining a highly visible profile and through regular contact with clinical staff, patients and their families.

They will provide written information to ensure that patients and their carers have easy access to appropriate and timely evidence based written information to reinforce verbal advice.

They will be responsible for for developing and maintaining personal portfolio and completing their revalidation and actively participating in clinical supervision. Continues to keep clinically up to date.

The post holder has no budgetary responsibility but should observe a personal duty of care for equipment and resources used in the course of work.

The post holder will be a member of the Breast cancer multidisciplinary team liaising with all disciplines that interface with care delivery for the patient group and developing excellent working relationships with support services. 

The post holder will need to be familiar with delivering bad news and supporting the patients and relatives through their treatment. A willingness to undertake communication skills course is required
