Job overview

Are you a leader in healthcare data and analytics, passionate about empowering NHS organisations with data-driven decisions to provide outstanding care?

We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and professional Information Manager to join our Information Services team. In this role, you will lead a dynamic team of Information and Insight analysts dedicated to delivering the highest quality intelligence and insight to our stakeholders.

Joining us at an exciting time of transformation, you will play a crucial role as we pursue an Electronic Patient Record, modernise our data and analytics services, and navigate the challenges of modern healthcare. You will ensure our stakeholders have access to the right data at the right time to make informed, quality decisions. You will lead the design and management of our data-product roadmaps and you will help provide assurance to  our executives and external regulators, all by providing outstanding leadership to our data professionals.

This role will be key to driving automation and improvement initiatives within the team, enhancing our analytical capacity. By doing so, you will enable the creation of meaningful intelligence and insights that support our divisions and services in delivering excellent care and safety to our patients and service users.

Main duties of the job

  • Improve the uptake of reporting and uses of data to ensure business decisions are based on evidence-based analysis;
  • Promote and improve data quality, self-service reporting and staff access to information;
  • Lead a team that continually improves the way in which information is presented, analysed and made available, including through the development of Business Intelligence tools;
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on performance data, with clear policies for the Trust in its collection, use and interpretation of statistical information;
  • Have detailed knowledge of the external environment and the importance of relationships with other organisations such as the Department of Health, NHS Improvement and Commissioners;
  • Provide guidance and support to managers, clinicians and other staff to develop their skills in the effective use of information.

Essential criteria
  • In depth knowledge of the NHS operating environment, including NHS Improvement’s Single Oversight Framework and PbR
  • Specialist knowledge and understanding of NHS performance targets and reporting timescales
  • Knowledge of business intelligence reporting tools and techniques in a healthcare environment
  • Awareness and understanding of nationally driven agendas and local strategies and policies
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of IT systems used in the NHS

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent relevant experienc
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development

  • Relevant higher academic qualification
  • Specialist qualification in an informatics related area

Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a senior information role
  • Experience of providing an advanced and complex information analysis service
  • Experience of using advanced data interrogation tools e.g. SQL, Power Bi, Qliksense, Exce
  • Experience of working successfully across functional boundaries
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective personal written and oral communication skills
  • Experience of providing advice to, and liaising with, managers/staff and all levels, including with Executive Directors and senior clinicians
  • Ability to formulate and implement policy changes as required by central and local reporting requirements
  • Ability to identify and implement best practice from other organisations
  • Good strategic planning and organisational skills to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience of successfully managing central operational services in a complex organisation (including people and budgetary management)
  • Ability to present highly complex/controversial information to a wider range of audiences, with differing levels of understanding
