Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Newly Qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust. This post is covering a secondment within the team which ends on the 31st March 2025 and sits within the General Medicine team.
We are a small but growing team with a strong focus on innovation, staff development and wellbeing. We provide in house dysphagia training, regular supervision and CPD.
This is a fixed term temporary post, full time until 31st March 2025.
Main duties of the job
To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to adults with communication and swallowing disorders at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust. This service covers Kings Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital and serves a wide range of patients and specialisms.
To independently provide a Speech and Language Therapy assessment, formulation, intervention and advice service for people with communication and/or dysphagia needs, their families, carers, support staff and professionals.
To work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team across a variety of agencies and locations in order to maximise communication opportunities
To contribute to the development of and deliver of a range of training packages for health and education professionals, other agencies and families.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised SLT Degree/diploma
- RCSLT and HCPC Registered or pending registration for final year SLT students.
Desirable criteria
- NQP competencies completed
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team
- Experience of adults with special needs i.e. Learning Disabilities or Deaf patients
Desirable criteria
- Experience in delivery of structured groups
- Experience of working with patients with mental health problems
Further Training
Desirable criteria
- Portfolio of relevant post qualification CPD
- Post basic dysphagia training or completed competencies
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Theoretical knowledge of SLT delivery including the use of different approaches and multi-disciplinary working, across different contexts and environments.
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the client group)
- Undergraduate Knowledge of different approaches to working with adults with speech, language, communication needs and eating, drinking, and swallowing needs.
Desirable criteria
- Signs and symbols knowledge
Contractual
Essential criteria
- Ability to travel between sites.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
