Job overview

Oxford Health Foundation Trust is looking for talented, enthusiastic and passionate people to join our established team. As one of our valued Maintenance operatives you will join a multi-skilled estates team with the primary role of optimising the quality and condition of OHFT’s properties to ensure buildings are kept in a safe condition. As one of our valued Maintenance operatives you will carry out general maintenance and repairs for the Trust’s buildings and surrounding areas, including plumbing, carpentry and electrical work.    

Main duties of the job

The role requires our Maintenance operatives to maintain a high level of quality, providing maximum satisfaction to OHFT staff. You will understand the mechanism of buildings including electrical, plumbing, plant safety systems and equipment. Provide first and immediate response to fault finding, whilst maximising quality and ensuring cost effectiveness, ensuring prevention of major damage that could result in extensive costs and minimise reactive intervention.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

These include the following

Carry out repairs to the fabric of a building,

• Understand and maintain electrical distribution, safe repair of electrical installation to legal requirements, for example replacing damaged sockets, plugs, lighting and fuses

• Carry out general repairs and reactive maintenance

• Complete PPM’s

• Understand and maintain plumbing and drainage systems, for example repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water testing and unblocking drains

• Carry out decorating and painting (internal and external)

• Maintain grounds and external fabrication of a building, such as drainage and guttering

• Record and report information accurately either internally or externally

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • level 3 vocational qualification in carpentry, plumbing or electrical and/or equivalent relevant experience carrying out maintenance in a hospital or construction environment

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Trained in the use of hardware tools and electrical equipment
  • Basic building knowledge
  • Carried out maintenance and repairs in properties/ construction or other environments
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in an NHS environment

Job Aptitude and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to set and negotiate priorities and follow programme workload to meet deadlines.
  • Communicates technical issues to maintenance staff/ explain technical issues to other staff.
  • Ability to work safely with no on site supervision
