Job overview

There are 3 Operating Theatre Departments within NOTSSCaN division based at the John Radcliffe Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, with plans to build a fourth operating suite on the main JR site 

The John Radcliffe Main Operating Theatre Department is a 6 theatre unit where routine and emergency surgery (general, gynae, spinal) takes place, predominately for adults. It is a tertiary referral center for vascular surgery and a major trauma center.

The West Wing Operating Theatre Department is a 14-theatre unit and provides elective and emergency care for adults and children. It is one of four highly specialized craniofacial centers in the UK, one of seven specialist units for cleft lip & palate surgery. It is a tertiary referral center for neurosurgery and the unit is recognized for ground-breaking work in ophthalmology surgery. Other specialties include ENT, Maxilla-Facial and children (General surgery & Orthopaedics). 

The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre is an 8 theatre unit providing care for adult patients. The NOC has a world-wide reputation for excellence in Orthopaedics. The hospital also undertakes specialist services such as the treatment of bone infection, bone tumours and limb reconstruction.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to appoint and exceptional Deputy Matron (RN/ODP) who will be responsible for leading and managing West Wing Theatres.  The successful candidate will be actively involved in supporting an experienced  team of Theatre Practitioners, whilst working alongside and cross covering JR main theatres deputy matron 

The Deputy Matron will provide effective, visible and accessible clinical leadership and operational management to this team. The role is ideal for a clinical leader aspiring to promote change and improvement within the Division. A commitment to the development of staff and services is essential, combine with personal drive, enthusiasm, creativity and resilience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• To act as a clinical expert, leading progressive clinical practice and contributing to the strategic and operational management of the theatre suite
• To be responsible for the recruitment, development, and management of theatre staff
• To ensure the efficient and effective utilisation of material and human resources within the agreed budget
• To provide support to the Matron and deputise as required.
• To be responsible and accountable for the implementation and evaluation of high-quality care for patients through evidence-based practice
