We are delighted that you are exploring the role of Director of Corporate Affairs at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
This key role as one of our Board of Directors offers an opportunity for an experienced leader with expertise in corporate affairs and risk management to join Oxford Health.
The Director of Corporate Affairs is a central role in the Trust Executive, the Trust Board and in supporting the Council of Governors.
Main duties of the job
This role is central to ensuring that the components of the Foundation Trust work well together and are coordinated; alongside this they will support and drive the work of the Chair/CEO's office to ensure good governance.
Specifically, the role will drive the intentionality of the work required to govern the delivery of the Trust’s strategy.
You will be responsible for the general company secretary and corporate affairs functions, and most importantly, you will operate as a full Board Director leading the Corporate Functioning of the Trust. To support this strategic component of the role you will be supported by a well-resourced team.
As a member of the Board of Directors, you will share collective responsibility for quality improvement, with personal accountability for strengthening the Trust's brand and reputation, and strategic leadership of the communication and marketing function, including in relation to media affairs and public relations.
We welcome applications from individuals with strong technical knowledge and expertise in corporate governance, and demonstrable experience of improving governance in organisations of comparable size and complexity.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous relevant experience in a Board Corporate Governance Role/Company Secretary/Trust Secretary role
- Proven record of working at all levels within complex organisations (ideally in a NHS foundation trust) and across partner organisations including Care Quality Commission (and its predecessors), NHS Litigation Authority, Strategic Health Authority, and Monitor
- Experience of working constructively with internal and external stakeholders to create the conditions for successful partnerships
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to Post Graduate (Masters) level or equivalent professional qualification such as Member of the Chartered Governance Institute (ICSA)
- Management qualification
Experience

- Understanding of corporate governance legislation, codes, guidance and best practice
- Understanding the roles and relationships between Council of Governors and Board of Directors
- Knowledge of corporate governance in a large organisation
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates ability to priorities workload to achieve deadlines
- Demonstrates advocacy and highly developed verbal, written and presentational communication skills
- Demonstrates ability to represent and speak on behalf of the Trust in a confident and convincing manner
- Strong IT skills (able to manipulate and present complex data in an intelligent manner) matters to non-experts e.g. implications of legislation and financial matters
- Proven ability to work with a high level of autonomy over responsibility and decision-making, and make sound, properly informed judgments
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
