Are you passionate about and committed to working in acute inpatient care settings?

We are seeking a Principal Practitioner Psychologist to work both directly on our acute inpatient wards and provide expert supervision to other practitioner psychologists in the service. It would be a good opportunity to develop leadership skills and be part of an innovative and fast growing service. 

You would work as part of one of the acute inpatient wards situated on the Littlemore Mental Health Centre site in Oxford. There will be assistant psychologists situated on the wards and opportunity to offer placements to trainees.

You would have a clear co-created job plan that is varied and flexible with a supportive consultant psychologist. There would also be allocated time to pursue a special interest or develop skills that would be in line with the service.

This role is recognised as crucial in ensuring that patients get access to high quality psychological treatments within the adult inpatient wards. 

We are a fast growing service that encourages innovation. There are exciting plans for the service to be part research trials looking at adapting psychological interventions to inpatient wards.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Provide psychological assessment and intervention for adults with severe and/or complex mental health difficulties in an inpatient setting.

To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by Clinical/ Counselling Psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

To work as part of the inpatient team providing advice and guidance to colleagues as well as to social care and GPs in planning and implementing care plans for patients with psychological care needs.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of local policies and procedures. To exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the inpatient wards. 

To utilise research skills, as a requirement of the job, for audit, policy and service development and research.

To propose and implement policy changes which may impact on other professionals working in the inpatient service.

To take delegated leadership in specific area of clinical responsibility.
