Trosolwg o'r swydd

We are seeking a compassionate, team oriented and dynamic Band 7 Genetic Counsellor to provide a mixture of general and cancer genetics clinics, including on call and prenatal genetics service delivery on a full time basis. The post holder will have responsibility for training and supporting newcomers to the service, as well as supporting colleagues in mainstream service. The post holder will have access to CPD, as well as quality counselling supervision in keeping with the AGNC Counselling Supervision requirements.

 The post holder will autonomously manage a  mixed case load of Cancer Genetics and General Cases, in addition to contributing to the on call and Prenatal Service.  The post holder will be required to provide a mixture of in person, telephone and virtual appointments in Oxford and in peripheral hospitals across the region. 

OXGEM Genetic  Counsellors are an active member of Central and South GMSA and the GC team contribute to transformation projects locally and regionally. There will be opportunities to support and educate STPs and trainee genetic counsellors, as well as contribute to local and regional projects and audits.  There will be opportunities to support colleagues through registration, for those who meet the GCRB criteria. 

We welcome applications from: those who have successfully completed  the National School of Clinical Scientists STP Genomic Counselling  in September 2023 and who are registered with the HCPC; Overseas trained GCs who hold a valid Eligibility to Register Certificate    from the UK Genetic Counsellor Registration Board; and UK MSc Genetic Counselling  graduates (Cardiff,  Glasgow)  who have not yet achieved  GCRB registration.

  • Urgent/on call

Training/supervision

  • training and mentoring  Genomic Counselling STPs, and other STPs within OUH Trust
  • training and mentoring MSc Students and pre-registration GCs
  • occasional training and mentoring for GC Affiliate posts such as genomic assistant,  genomic associate and genomic practitioner.
  • training and mentoring of healthcare professionals to deliver genomic medicine in mainstream setting (primary and secondary care)
