Job overview

Are you a parent/carer or sibling of a child or young person, who has needed Tier 4 (inpatient) CAMHS care? 

Would you like to join a team to support parents/carers of those currently patients in Tier 4 CAMHS?  

Join the team at Thames Valley Provider Collaborative* to provide support to parents who have children requiring specialist (Tier 4) mental health services.   

We are looking to recruit you to join a small team of staff who have personal experience as a parent/carer to a child or young adult needing inpatient mental health or equivalent Tier 4 CAMHS care.  We work together to support other parents whose children are under the care of a Tier 4 (inpatient or equivalent) service.  They will meet via phone and video call, and occasionally in person to help parents/carers to:

  • prepare for their child to be admitted,
  • navigate meetings and processes they may come across and
  • work closely with the clinical team in the coproduction of care and support. 

The applicants will also have:

  • Level 4 / diploma level education or equivalent experience,
  • experience of working as part of a team, and
  • strong communication skills.  

User experience (as a parent / carer of a child or young person 21 or under at the time of admission to inpatient mental health services) is essential, and will be used to short list, so please make clear reference to this in your application.

Main duties of the job

Family Ambassadors support parents and carers who have a child needing highly specialised (Tier 4) CAMHS care.   This can be done remotely so long as it is done from a confidential space.  

Working with support from the Regional Family Ambassadors and peers within the team they provide support from referral until discharge.   This is generally provided by phone, text, emails MS Teams meetings but can also be in person.

*Thames Valley Provider Collaborative are a group of providers working together to provide specialist mental health care for children and young people.  They cover Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and BSW (Bath and Northeast Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.)

  • Has lived experience as a parent or carer of a young person under 25 years who has required care within an inpatient mental health setting

Qualifications

  • Educated to NVQ 4 level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising own and others’ workloads to changing and often tight deadlines
