Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and ambitious Nurse Colposcopist to lead our colposcopy service in PTHB. The ideal candidate should have experience in and knowledge of colposcopy services, excellent communication skills and have extensive knowledge of the national screening requirements set by the NHS cervical screening programme in Wales.
Main duties of the job
As a Colposcopist and Advanced Practitioner, the post holder will manage their own caseload, providing an autonomous colposcopy service and undertake an independent practitioner-led diagnostic and therapeutic role using highly advanced clinical judgement and highly developed specialist knowledge of this complex speciality.
They will provide clinical expertise and specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the specialty. As an advanced practitioner will be registered and accredited by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP), with accountability for maintaining and improving high quality care for women in the colposcopy setting. Possess highly advanced communication skills, be skilled and experienced in interpersonal relationships and demonstrate the ability to gain the support and cooperation of others. Will receive and act upon complex information generated within the screening programme and provide advice on the further management and follow up of women within the colposcopy service. This will include clinical management, surveillance, and follow-up, based on the interpretation of clinical information. Provide expert specialist clinical advice within the MDT and use the cervical screening programme CANISC system.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Current NMC Registration
- Masters degree or equivalent experience
- Specialist knowledge of the principles of cervical screening, colposcopy and the underlying pathology and related disease
- BSCCP Registered Colposcopist
- Demonstrate competence in clinical practice
- Able to relate theory to practice
- Provide expert specialist clinical advice within the MDT
- Cervical Screening Course
- Smear taker
Desirable criteria
- Basic Counselling skills course
- 1st Level Degree
- Knowledge of the principles of Research and Quality Assurance
- Knowledge of Health Promotion principles
- Knowledge of CANISC system
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in the field of women’s health
- Specialist clinical knowledge relating to cervical screening and Colposcopy
- Experience of leading a team of nurses at undertaking training, presentations to multi professional groups
- Ability to take the lead in audit and participate in R&D
