Job overview
The main purpose of the job is to ensure the provision of the highest standard of direct patient care for patients undergoing a range of endoscopic procedures. Assist the Endoscopist and support patients, with emphasis on patient safety and dignity during all aspects of endoscopy procedures. The Day Surgery and Endoscopy Unit is practitioner led when working in areas such as pre-assessment, discharge, and management of post discharge problems with the facilities to link with the visiting Endoscopists, Consultants, Anaesthetists, Patient Services and out of hours services. The post will also link with the Outpatients department to ensure continuity of patient pathway.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for highly motivated Endoscopy Practitioner to join our Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units at Brecon and Llandrindod Hospital. The role involves assisting the endoscopists during procedures and specialised patient care before, during and after the procedure. You will also be admitting and discharging the patients and the successful applicants base will be Brecon Hospital.
Excellent communication skills are required to work within the department, to ensure effective working relationships so that we can deliver a high standard of patient care to Powys patients locally. The unit also supports the training of clinical endoscopists and other training opportunities can be explored.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC/HCPC registration with Degree / Diploma or relevant professional qualification
- Evidence of current professional development
- Knowledge of gastroenterology nursing and caring for this group of patients
- Up to date portfolio and evidence of professional development
- Knowledge of general medical conditions
Desirable criteria
- Experience within the acute medical/ surgical setting
Experience
Essential criteria
- Some post registration experience preferably within the gastroenterology field
- Working knowledge of multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of audit and research. Ability to gather data within sphere of responsibility
- Ability to produce written and verbal reports pertinent to the post i.e. individual patient and ward documentation
- Working knowledge of clinical governance procedure
- Organisational, interpersonal and operational skills needed for post i.e. management of resources i.e. planning and delivery of direct patient care

- Ability to plan care of patients pre and post endoscopy procedures
- Experience of endoscopy/ gastroenterology units
