Job overview
There is an exciting new opportunity for an Endodontic Consultant based in Brecon. The post is permanent and for 22.5 hours per week. As a senior employee you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to PTHB patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following: The provision of a first-class clinical service. Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty. Sustaining and developing teaching and training opportunities within the department. Undertaking all work in accordance with the Health Board’s procedures and operating policies. Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board’s service plans. Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
To work together with other colleagues to provide a referral service for complex endodontics. This includes all aspects of endodontic undergraduate/postgraduate training, treatment and relevant line management of colleagues. Provide clinical supervision of junior staff, undergraduate/postgraduate students, or as a shared responsibility with other consultant/specialist colleagues.
Responsible for carrying of teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
Contribute to departmental or Health Board research interests. Contribute to the audit programmes, clinical governance programs and learning from complaints, compliments and incidents.
Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Community Dental Service Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and providing a value for money service.
Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service. Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced.

Essential criteria
- Rgistered with GDC
- Licensed to Practice in the UK
- On specialist Register with GDC Specialist list in Endodontics and/or Restorative Dentistry
- MClinDent, MEndo, ISFE in Restorative Dentistry or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Effective leadership, ability to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership when appropriate
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients, colleagues, relatives and staff, communicate openly and honestly and explain things clearly
