We welcome applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered biomedical scientists with AND without Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) specialist qualifications i.e., IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

 

Don’t have the specialist portfolio in H&I? No problem, we will prioritise your training and support you to complete the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in H&I. In this situation, payment for the duration of training would be under Band 6 (Annex 21) arrangements for pay and banding of trainees (NHS Terms and Conditions of Service).

 

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

The Welsh Transplant laboratory is based within the headquarters of the Welsh Blood Service in Talbot Green, near Cardiff, and provides a specialised service to support renal, pancreas and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, platelet immunology, and disease association testing.

 

The successful candidate will embark on a rewarding journey in support of the routine day-to-day technical and scientific work of the Laboratory, including participation in the 24/7 on-call rota when trained.  You will work in rotation across the different laboratory areas, performing and overseeing routine and complex laboratory testing including genetic testing, antibody testing and crossmatching using a variety of laboratory techniques.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Hons in Biological Sciences
  • State registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
  • Specialist qualification in H&I (IBMS Specialist Portfolio, BSHI Diploma, STP)
  • Knowledge of requirements of MHRA, CPA and ISO standards
  • Knowledge of H&I testing requirements to support transplant services
