Job overview

Are you a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated musculoskeletal physiotherapist who is driven to continue their professional development in the speciality of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

You will work as part of an new integrated service with the Musculoskeletal Service Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. This service brings together partner organisations across the county, including Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals and the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, to provide quality care to patients with musculoskeletal concerns within the population of Shropshire via primary acre referrals.

This role also provides specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapy services to Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital working closely with Orthopaedic and Sports Specialist Teams providing post-operative  rehabilitation and management under the care of the specialist hospital teams.

Professional development is supported via access to a wealth of knowledge and experience in the form of Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, Consultants, GP’s with special interest,  as well as highly specialist clinicians with special interests.

Through job plans and CPD programmes you will have access to apprenticeships and funding for development.

 

Main duties of the job

To work within the Physiotherapy Department / satellite clinics, as required by the service, with therapy colleagues and the wider MDT in meeting the needs of people who require musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment, treatment and management to provide a high standard of physiotherapy care.

To perform specialist physiotherapy assessments of patients including those with diverse and complex presentations/multi-pathologies and use specialist clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition and to deliver an individualised treatment programme, collaborating with colleagues as needed.

To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

The post holder is responsible for their own caseload and being jointly responsible for a defined area of service working without direct supervision.

 The post holder is also responsible for the prioritisation of their personal work load whilst balancing patient need against their available work time and managing all aspects of their role including duties such as compliance with Infection Prevention and Control requirements, Mandatory Statutory Training and delivering services that meet agreed service performance requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide high quality physiotherapy in the MSST and Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital Physiotherapy Services through specialist musculoskeletal assessment, treatment and management of patients who may have complex presentations.
  • To be responsible for supervision of Band 5 Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers working in the team through regular supervision and delegation of duties.
  • To be responsible for clinical practice based education of physiotherapy students on placement.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload as an autonomous practitioner, working without direct supervision being responsible for effective and efficient management of patients under your and the teams care. 
  • To participate in provision of an efficient and effective Outpatient Therapy  service, making recommendations to  your Team Lead and be actively engage in implementation of improvements, service developments and transformation projects.#
  •  Undertake and  be involved in audits and  evidence-based projects.
  • To participate in flexible working practices across the opening times of the department on week days with early evening work and Saturday working as service needs demand.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Physiotherapy or Grad. Dip. Phys.
  • MCSP
  • State registration with HCPC
  • Post reg: CPD portfolio with evidence of IST and reflective learning
  • Evidence of post graduate courses in clinical skills and MSK conditions
  • Relevant clinical courses to MSK caseload

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad rotational experience as a Physiotherapist, particularly MSK Supervision of Physiotherapy Assistants and/or students
  • Clinical Educators Qualification or willingness to undertake in first 6 months in post
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working Experience in, rehabilitation, such as hydrotherapy, gym work
