We currently have a Band 5 Staff Nurse vacancy within the Specialist Delivery Unit on  Oswald Ward. This is a fixed term post for 12 months at 37.5 hours a week.

Oswald Ward forms part of the Trust's £15.1 million Theatre and Ward Development, which was opened in August 2016 and is dedicated to MSK oncology and orthopaedic patients.  The ward is led by Ward Manager, Sister Sarah Kaye. Oswald ward specialises in the care of patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas and metastatic disease, prides itself on the outstanding care delivered to patients throughout their entire journey from referral through to treatment, discharge and follow up care. It is one of five specialist centres within the United Kingdom, covering a large demographic area and has a strong multidisciplinary focus, both within and outside the Trust, working closely with other NHS organisations and services such as Macmillan. The service offers individualised holistic care, to those patients requiring surgical and palliative care. The service is dedicated to the development of all staff members to ensure they are confident and proficient in providing highly skilled, high quality nursing care.

The post is responsible for providing skilled nursing care within a multidisciplinary environment, to ensure individualised and effective care is practiced. The successful candidate will act as a resource within the speciality of MSK Orthopaedic oncology, empowering junior staff to develop the highest possible level of clinical skills and facilitate communication within all care groups, whilst utilising the wards resources to promote excellence in practice.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse (General) with good communication skills with the ability to assist with change and the drive to improve and develop clinical practice. The successful candidate will also be motivated, confident individual who also shows initiative, is a team player and who is flexible and reliable to meet the demands of the service and able to demonstrate consistently high standards of work.

Summary of Post

Under the direction of the Ward/ department manager the post holder is responsible for providing skilled high quality nursing care within a multidisciplinary environment, to ensure individualised and effective care is practiced.

Contribute to the continuity of good team spirit and high standards of nursing care.  Empowering junior staff to develop the highest possible level of clinical skills and facilitates communication within all care groups.
