Senior Clerical Officer - Oncology & Haematology Centre

Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Senior Clerical Officer on a 12 month fixed term or secondment to work in the Administrative and Clerical teams within the Haematology & Oncology Departments at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The successful individual will assist the Admin Supervisors / Centre Operations team to ensure the team are delivering the highest possible standard of work.

You will require excellent computer skills and have knowledge of existing IT systems eg Oracle, Health Roster, Hospital Transport, Employee Online,  Careflow and Chemotherapy E-Prescribing systems (Aria) to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.  

The post holder will need to be able to work flexibly between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm Monday to Friday. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to  work accurately under pressure, meeting tight deadlines, with the ability to manage and prioritise their own workload and that of the wider team. You will also be an integral part of the team in being able to undertake any aspects of the work. This will involve working within reception, the booking office, undertaking clinic management or ward clerking on a regular basis.

The Lingen Davies Centre cares for Haematology & Cancer patients within Out-patient Clinics and Day Units delivering chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

You will be working as part of an Administration Team that are caring, friendly and helpful in making a great first impression when patients/visitors arrive at the Departments.

The Administration Teams play a vital role in helping our Health Professionals to provide the very best care. The Department offers a fully supportive environment to work in with great opportunities to progress.

Education/Training

Essential criteria
  • 4 x GCSE's (Grades 4 - 9) or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration
  • OCR / RSA Level 1 or 2 word processing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous general office / admin experience
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Knowledge of PAS software programmes (Sema / Careflow, Clinical Portal, Aria, Somerset)
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Supervisory / Team Leader experience

  • Good communication skills with excellent telephone manner
  • Able to communicate sensitively and tactfully with patients and carers
