Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse who is looking for an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills within the specialist field of diabetes and endocrinology. We would like you to join our friendly team on a fixed term / secondment for 9 months. This position will be part time, 30 hours per week.

This post will allow the successful candidate to advance their knowledge in diabetes and endocrinology care and the long-term health needs of patients. You will have a keen interest in the specialist area and be able to demonstrate this. Although some experience in the management of these specialist areas would be advantageous this is not essential.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a nurse to work with the support of the existing team delivering specialist care, advice and guidance of people with diabetes / endocrinology conditions in the hospital environment. You will provide education and support to patients and their families and will support the team with multi-disciplinary clinics for diabetes and potentially support some dynamic testing in the endocrinology service. You will also provide education and support to staff within the trust to improve the quality of the care in this speciality.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the speciality and make a difference to patient's experiences and improve the quality of diabetes care.

The applicants must be committed to providing an excellent standard of patient care, and also demonstrate commitment in developing of their own professional competence and confidence. He/she will have excellent communication skills and be supportive and open to new initiatives.

There will be a need to cover services across both hospital sites and the successful candidate will need to commute between the sites.

The service currently runs from  9.00 am - 5.00 pm and there is also a requirement to work across sites according to service needs.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN Diploma or Degree
  • NMC Registered
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge achieved through First Level Degree or equivalent portfolio of evidence
  • Recognised Diabetes / endocrine qualification or experience
  • Teaching Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continual professional development and education

Knowledge, Behaviours and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience
  • Diabetes/endocrine nursing experience
  • Experience of provision of training/education to range of staff and patients
  • Assessing and developing care plans for patients with complex needs
