Job overview
We currently have vacancies at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Emergency Department Reception and Ward Clerk team. The successful applicant will be part of a group of employees which comprises of medical, nursing and administrative staff who provide a high standard of service to patients and relatives attending the departments.
The successful applicants will need to have experience of delivering a high standard of customer service in a customer facing role; possess good IT skills and remain calm under pressure. A good telephone manner, confidence and a positive way of working is essential.
You will be required to be flexible within the contracted hours in order for the service to be fully covered. Full training will be provided for all candidates.
The working hours will be discussed at interview, however, these will be worked on a 24-hour varied shift pattern, which could include days 8am-8pm, Christmas day, weekends, bank holidays and night shifts 8pm-8am. Cross site working could be required at times.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clerical, administrative and information technology support to the Emergency Department in relation to booking in of patients, patients being treated and cared for within the department, and to provide information for patients, relatives and internal and external agencies, on A&E status.
The post holder may be required to work anywhere in the department to cover short term absence or annual leave.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard with Maths and English Language at grades 9-4/ equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Information Governance training
- ECDL
- NVQ 2 Business Admin or equivalent experience

- Experience with computer database input and related equipment
- Good keyboard skills
- Data entry experience
- General office experience of photocopiers, faxes, printers etc.
- Telephone Reception duties
Desirable criteria
- Good working knowledge of SEMA system

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
