Job overview

Are you an experienced and dynamic critical care nurse who is passionate about education and staff development?  We are looking for Critical Care Practice Education Facilitators to provide education and practice development for our critical care service cross site.

The successful applicant will have completed and obtained the post-graduate Care Course (60 credits) and  have extensive critical care experience, knowledge and skills.

You must demonstrate effective leadership and managerial skills and enjoy working alongside a team of professional nurses.  You will be self motivated, energetic and receptive to change. You must be able to lead, oversee and develop, the delivery of evidence based, high quality clinical nursing care to patients and families in the critical care environment.

You will act as an expert practitioner and role model in order to develop the workforce and clinical practice. You will be required to work strategically and operationally within the team to promote the teaching, training and on-going development of a multi-professional team

We have one full time position available. The candidate will support the entire critical care service on both hospital sites,  so the ability to travel and work on both hospital sites is essential for the role.  There is an expectation that as a Critical Care Practice Facilitator you are able to work flexibly, which may include shifts,  weekends and bank holidays  to meet the educational needs of the unit.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be expected to work cross-site, working closely with all staff members within the units , department managers, critical care matron & the medical team to support the teams with all their training and development needs.

As a Critical Care Practice Education Facilitator you will work clinically with both newly qualified and experienced nurses to ensure best practice within the clinical areas, alongside formal classroom & online based teaching.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the critical care management team to establish and maintain an active learning environment, updating and developing Critical Care practices and training by using their extensive knowledge and experience in a Critical Care setting. Bringing innovation and a positivity to the team.

The post holder will be expected to work as a change agent with the rest of the senior nursing team within the Critical Care department, taking forward the nursing strategy, standards and shaping the future of nursing practice, within our services. They will support the critical care management team to standardise nursing practice and identify opportunities for improvement.

They will work with the critical care management team to ensure staff achieve the required clinical competencies by the development and implementation of a variety of educational packages in response to service, trust and individual need.

Working for our organisation

We work closely with the wider trust to encourage innovation and creativity from our team to help improve our patients’ experiences.  We recognise outstanding care within our team, supported by the Learning from Excellence scheme and encourage all our staff to get involved.  We also highly value safety and quality – with established daily safety huddles, improved communication through our team newsletter and open culture for all staff to suggest improvements.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust's Hospital Transformation Programme will join both units to form a 30-bedded Critical Care at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in the next few years.  Until then, we currently offer rotations for staff between both sites, in order to gain experience in a range of medical, surgical, trauma, maternity and emergency care specialities.

This is a hugely exciting time to be joining Critical Care at SaTH with these developments and we hope that you will apply for this post and join our team!
