Job overview

The post is to support care for out inpatient Oncology & Haematology patients and the establishment of additional beds in a new assessment bay.  We are happy to take applications from newly qualified staff nurses. The ward provides inpatient care for patients on chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and other anti-cancer treatments and manages the side effects of these treatments.  The patients cared for on this ward are having treatment for both solid tumours and blood cancers.  This is an exciting opportunity for the right staff member who wants to develop their skills and experience in working within the ever changing field of cancer care.  We are happy to support the successful individual with training to work with this specialist group of patients.

Main duties of the job

To be successful you will be a keen, hardworking and enthusiastic nurse who is committed to providing a high standard of clinical care.  You will need to have excellent communication skills with patients, relatives and members of the ward team. You will also need to demonstrate a passion for working within cancer care and have the ability to balance a workload which often includes acute oncological and haematological emergencies alongside the demands of providing symptom control, palliative and end of life care. You will be working alongside an existing team who will support you in developing the necessary oncology and haematology skills and we will be happy to provide training in chemotherapy administration.  You will need to be comfortable in dealing with patients who have complex cancer needs and be able to deal with difficult and distressing situations on occasion.

Working for our organisation

As a Trust, we are passionate about helping our staff to achieve their career aspirations, and can offer a variety of learning and development opportunities to support your continued professional development. Working with the Transforming Care Institute we can also offer in-house training such as degree/master modules, secondments and acting up opportunities.

We are an organisation that strives to provide high quality, safe care for our patients in an environment which our staff are proud to work in.
