Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Stroke and ESD

Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer a permanent, part-time Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) position of 26.25 hours per week (0.7WTE) in our Stroke, Rehab and Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Team.
For the first year, we can offer full time hours (37.5) as a result of a maternity leave vacancy until June 2025.
The successful candidate must have experience of working with adults with complex acquired disorders of communication and dysphagia. Neurology or stroke experience is essential. Experience of leadership in clinical practice is also essential. Competencies in tracheostomy management and video fluoroscopy are preferred.
The part-time position will involve:
1 day per week working on the Stroke Unit at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, and 2.5 days working within the Stroke ESD team based in Shrewsbury.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual who has an excellent understanding of evidenced based practice within the speciality of stroke rehabilitation to deliver specialist assessment and patient centred treatments. The ability to influence and implement a high-quality service is required to ensure we are continuously improving the quality of services provided to patients across the pathways.
As the clinical lead, this post holder will also focus on leadership skills, including supporting the delivery of SLT professional objectives and wider stroke strategy, working closely with Band 7 MDT colleagues within the team and wider SLT teams.
You will be responsible for the clinical supervision and mentorship of band 5 and band 6 Speech and Language Therapists within the stroke and ESD team. You will be required to deliver regular training within our therapy structure, and you will also be required to lead in delivering dysphagia link nurse training on a rolling programme as well as providing education and support to the wider MDT.
We are fortunate to offer our patients a 6 day SLT stroke therapy service, with MDT colleagues working across 7 days. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in this work pattern and will also lead on rota development for the SLT team in conjunction with the team's line manager.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 1. Degree in Speech & Language Therapy
- 2. Registered with Health Care Professions Council and RCSLT
- 3. Evidence of highly specialist clinical training in relevant areas to enable extended scope practice
- 4. MSc or evidence of study at MSc level.
Work experience
Essential criteria
- 1. Evidence of extensive experience in relevant area of clinical practice
- 2. Evidence of teaching / presentation experience
- 3. Experience in audit and research
Desirable criteria
- Experience of integrated working
