An exciting opportunity has been created within the colorectal specialist nursing team; we are looking to recruit an Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist for a 12 month period to assist the consultant nurse in development and implementation of new pathways of care for patients with colorectal disease. This will primarily be the implementation and clinical delivery of the faster diagnosis pathway as part of the TRIOMIC trial which will be at the community diagnostic hub Hollinswood House.
Together you will have overall responsibility for the direction and development of the colorectal nursing service. You will be expected to manage a team of colorectal specialist nurses, offer your clinical expertise, advice, and clinical skill to ensure the smooth running of the department and clinics, and make sure that high standards of care are delivered. This will include working as part of the team within clinical settings and managing this on a daily basis.
The individual will have physical assessment skills to assess and manage patients on a faster diagnosis pathway. You will therefore have advanced physical assessment skills and be a non medical prescriber.
The individual will instrumental with supporting faster diagnosis referrals and supporting new pathways of working and the TRIOMIC trial.
Main duties of the job
Alongside the delivery of expert high-quality care to patients, the post holder will exercise a high degree of personal independence and professional autonomy and will take responsibility for the following areas:
- To lead a comprehensive highly specialist nursing service for patients receiving care across the colorectal pathway
- Nurse led clinics, utilising clinical examination skills, non-medical prescribing, and order of diagnostics investigations with management of results.
- Overseeing and managing the CNS teams across the colorectal pathway including non-medical roles
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage the colorectal pathway
- Collaborating and working with the MDT and wider MDT, ensuring a high-quality integrated service which meets local, regional and national standards.
- Provide expert patient care from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care within the rapid diagnostic and assessment unit.
- Provide expert knowledge and understanding of colorectal diseases and associated treatments.
- Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the development of local guidelines, protocols and standards for diagnostic pathway.
- Take responsibility for the management of patients within own caseload and supervision/development of junior members of the multi-professional team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RN1 or RN12 Registered Nurse
- BSc/1st Degree or equivalent
- Masters Degree, or equivalent experience
- Have successfully completed advanced assessment module/course
- Mentorship Course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Independent prescriber
- Teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience with breast cancer diagnosis
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Experience & knowledge of audit, research and evidence based care
- Proven evidence of management / leadership skills and autonomous practice
- Previous experience of nursing student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
- Ability to use skills of history taking and physical assessment to direct patient care
