Advanced Practitioner in Breast Imaging

Band 7

Job overview

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are looking for a dynamic, caring, and enthusiastic Advanced Practitioner Mammographer to join the team undertaking stereotactic biopsies, film reading, QA lead and PACS support.  Training will be given to those who do not hold a qualification in interventional and film reading.  There is potential for the candidate to undertake further clinical components, such as ultrasound if clinical demand dictates in the future.

The department provides screening and symptomatic services for the county of Shropshire and parts of mid-Wales.  We have recently implemented Tomosynthesis and are looking to implement Contract Enhanced Mammography and Vacuum Assisted Excisions.  We are supported by an excellent team of Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Breast Care Nurses, Imaging Assistants and Clerical staff.

We have newly installed GE Pristina equipment in both departments and on our mobile units.  Our ultrasound equipment is also GE.

We embrace new ways of working to meet the challenges currently faced, this includes going paperlite for our Breast Screening Programme.

Main duties of the job

This post requires extremely high levels of clinical judgement involving frequent periods of intense concentration, utilising a significant amount of physical, emotional and intellectual resourcefulness in managing patients, equipment and external influences.

The post-holder will provide local PACS support for colleagues within breast imaging as well as being the QA lead for the department and leading the symptomatic bookings for interventional procedures. The post-holder will be a key member of the breast multidisciplinary team and take an active role in meetings as well as deputise for the Superintendent Radiographers as required. The post-holder will take a lead role within the clinical audit and research agenda in mammography.

Working for our organisation

You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time as, having recently being awarded more than £300 million government funding, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is about to undergo a major transformation as part of our sustainable services programme.  This will lead to breast imaging and surgery being co-located at one of the two hospital sites in a purpose-built breast services department.

Due to the nature of the work, mammography posts have a gender protected character. This is a genuine occupational requirement and as a result this post is exempt under Schedule 9; Part1 of the Equality Act 2010 and, therefore, only female applicants should apply.
