Job overview

We are recruiting for  2 x Children's Nursing Assistants at Band 3 to join our team on Ward 19 - Paediatrics.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who enjoys being an integral part of a ward team, someone who can work under pressure, manage tasks, be kind, show initiative and has a positive attitude towards work. The successful candidate will have experience of working with children in hospital, excellent communication and organisational skills and a positive approach to change.

Main duties of the job

  • The Children’s Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a member of the care team appointed to support registered practitioners in delivering identified nursing support for specific care, to a defined group of patients with 
    specific medical and/or mental health needs.
  • The post-holder will undertake a range of activities under the indirect supervision of an appropriately qualified or professionally registered practitioner, having received training and being assessed as competent in the activities required, working within a degree of initiative and within a set framework, reporting to the accountable nurse.
  • Participating in assessment of care and reporting assessments to accountable nurse.
  • To be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team caring for children and liaising with other specialties as required.

The Children’s Unit at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford is a 36 bedded (including a 3 bed oncology unit), acute general paediatric ward caring for children aged 0-17 years with medical, surgical, orthopaedic, mental and oncology conditions.

We are committed to the development of our staff and offer a competency package supported by our Clinical Practice Educator, designed to support those with different levels of experience.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have a basic knowledge of the needs of the child and family
  • Recent substantial experience in Childcare/Healthcare setting
  • Awareness of basic child protection procedures

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Childcare qualification (eg NNEB) or HCA (NVQ level 3)
  • Maths and English GCSE grades 9-4 or equivalent qualification
