Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Superintendent Sonographer to join our friendly, hard working and progressive Non-Obstetric Ultrasound Team at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. 

The Ultrasound department scans approximately 40,000 patients per year in a variety of clinical settings and the post will include rotation between the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (PRH), the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) and the newly created Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Telford. 

We are looking for a self motivated and well organised Sonographer with significant experience of working at a professional level and proven management experience who will provide professional and clinical leadership of the Ultrasound Team based at The Princess Royal Hospital. 

Main duties of the job

  • To work alongside the Lead Superintendent Sonographer for the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to ensure effective management of staff including rostering of the ultrasound rooms at PRH, RSH and the CDC, recruitment, appraisal, training compliance, performance and absence management.
  • Be accountable for service delivery, liaising with service users and other agencies as appropriate, in additional to the management and maintenance of the ultrasound equipment.
  • Ensure efficient and effective management of all resources to deliver safe and high quality patient care in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Ability to successfully manage a budget.
  • Provide operational management support to the Radiology Centre Manager and be part of the Radiology Management Team.
  • Ability to fulfil the requirements of the Trust's on-call rota. 
  • Work as a reporting Advanced Practitioner Sonographer when there is a service need.

Our team of experienced Sonographers and Imaging Assistants work across RSH, PRH and the CDC to provide a high quality non-obstetric service. Our Ultrasound systems include Philips EPIQ Elites, Siemens Acuson Sequoias and GE LOQIQ E10's. 

As a department we support continued professional development, we have quarterly governance/audit meetings and we have set up in house training modules in specialist scanning areas such as neonatal heads, neonatal hips, soft tissue lumps, DVT, carotids etc.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • DCR/BSc (Hon) Diagnostic Radiography
  • DMU/PgDip Medical Ultrasound (CASE accredited or equivalent)
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Extensive post graduate experience as an Advanced Practitioner Sonographer
  • Eligible to work in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working at a management/leadership or professional level within Radiology
  • Evidence of successful management of clinical services
  • Evidence of effective management of a complex and diverse workforce
  • Ability to manage a budget
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of business strategy and planning
