Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, autonomous and highly motivated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to work in our adult Hospital setting.

We want you to join our Inpatient team in this exciting opportunity at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital (SATH) NHS Trust. 

The role will be full time (37.5 hours) and based at The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH).  There will be opportunities to work cross site within our wider acute inpatient team.  

Those looking for a developmental position as a stepping stone between band 5 and band 6 are welcome to apply, training and support will be given to develop leadership and clinical skills.

Post graduate dysphagia training is essential due to the main caseload being assessing and managing swallowing difficulties, with some opportunities to work with communication difficulties as caseload requires.

 There will be opportunities to gain skills within organising and creating training, developing supervision skills, as well as working with our senior therapists and team co-ordinators to ensure our service provides efficient, effective, patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

To assess, diagnose/ interpret and manage a shared specialist caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner. 

The job will include working in a wide variety of areas - general medical, elderly care, respiratory, cardiac, renal, surgical, gastro, critical care and also will allow opportunities to work alongside other specialist clinical teams such as end of life care, dementia, dental hygienist, social work.

We have access to an annual PGM to link us to the wider profession across the county. We offer and implement regular management and clinical supervision across the whole of therapies, as well as weekly huddles and monthly meetings allowing for group discussions around cases and service development

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • As required for entry into University for professional training
  • Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council and RCSLT
  • Evidence of specialist clinical training in relevant areas

Work Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of broad range of pre and post qualification experience
  • Evidence of experience in relevant area of clinical practice, including dysphagia
  • Evidence of teaching/ student experience
  • Experience in audit and research

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of CPD (portfolio) detailing clinical experience relevant to the post
  • Knowledge of current NHS strategy and plans
  • knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Evidence of Specialist level of clinical reasoning
  • Knowledge of current Evidence Based Practice relevant to post

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of leadership ability
  • Clinical supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal skills
  • IT Skills relevant to the role

Experience

  • Videofluoroscopy competent
