Job overview

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Theatre Practitioner at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.  You must be a practising Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.  

We are also looking to recruit a flexible practitioner who is able to work within many specialities and be able to deputise in these specialities in the absence of a theatre co-ordinator.

The post holder should act as an expert resource for all clinical staff & students. They should possess a relevant Practice Assessor (Nurse) or Practice Educator (ODP) qualification,  participate in the supervision, training & support of all learners in Theatre,  supporting development and the staff appraisal system.

They should help maintain a positive learning environment and take every reasonable opportunity  for maintaining, developing and acquiring competencies for self development

Expectations to deliver a high standard of service with patient safety and quality are a priority. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work to the highest standards of evidence based practice.

The post holder will participate as an integral member of the theatre team giving leadership and guidance to other staff, and maintaining high standards of practice and care.

 

Main duties of the job

  • To function as a competent clinical practitioner within the designated clinical area.
  • To deliver direct patient care whilst, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing/theatre practice.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during their span of duty.
  • To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.

Working for our organisation

The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford consists of 11 operating theatres, 5 in main theatres, 4 in the elective hub and 2 Maternity Theatres. We have an on call team that covers the main and maternity theatres 24/7.  On our Telford site we cover the following specialities: Trauma & Orthopaedics, ENT, Max-Fax, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Breast surgery, CEPOD and Maternity.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN or reg. ODP
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional development/ qualification relevant to area of speciality.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant post Registration experience in Theatres/Anaesthetics.
  • Managerial ability
  • High level clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Evidence of co-ordinating, managing and leading the team in out of hours service delivery.
  • Teaching ability
  • Experience in undertaking preceptor/mentor role
  • An awareness and understanding of nursing/department policy and practice relevant to speciality.
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake mentorship course
  • Involvement in Nursing audit and Research.

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non verbal and written.
  • Microsoft office PC. and Sema Pas skills
