Job overview

 The Breast Unit is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to the role of Health Care Support Worker. This role will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely to support patients with the Breast Unit at the RUH.

You will be working closely alongside a wide range of clinical and administrative teams to ensure that patients have a comfortable and safe experience of various Breast Clinic appointments.

As you can expect from this type of role, you will be expected to support clinical colleagues to implement plans of care and prepare patients for clinic. The successful candidate does not have to have completed a qualification prior to appointment. However, the expectation is that the successful candidate will commence working on the essential qualification, of level 2 in Health & Social Care or the Care Certificate, upon starting in post. 

We are looking to appoint a kind and organised individual who has NHS experience or relevant transferable skills, good at communicating with people/customers/patients and experience of working in a team. This position sits within a busy Breast Unit, with a supportive team and structure as well as opportunities to personally develop.

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Support Worker is required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, committed to the treatment and care of the patient within The Breast Unit.

You will undertake a wide range of duties under the supervision of the professional staff of Radiologists, Radiographers, Consultant Surgeons and nursing staff.

Organise the day to day activity in the ultrasound or clinic rooms and prioritise workload as appropriate.

Assist the Doctors and Mammographers during ultrasound and x-ray procedures including Vacuum assisted biopsies and needle localisations.
