Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team of consultants.   Both full time and less than full time applicants will be considered.  

 

Main duties of the job

The Trust’s aim is to provide excellent consultant based care for our patients from the moment they arrive, and to ensure rapid access to the right service at the right time, as well as maximising opportunities for ambulatory care and early discharge.

This post will join a team of dedicated consultants to help provide consultant delivered care within all areas of the Emergency Department; adults, children and urgent care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will be based at the RUH and the holders will participate in an annualised rota providing extensive clinical service and supervision. There is  consultant shop floor presence between 0800 hours and 2400 hours five days a week with cover until 2230 at weekends.  A consultant on-call rota is maintained at all other times.

There is the opportunity to work across all areas of the department and the current shifts include working in Children's ED, Urgent care, Resus/High Care, Rapid Assessment and Adult ED.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FCEM or equivalent
  • ATLS, APLS, ALS provider - 1 point per course
  • Entry on specialist register (or expected within six months)
Desirable criteria
  • ATLS, APLS, ALS to instructor status - 1 point per course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in ED
  • Evidence of working at a senior trainee or consultant level
Desirable criteria
  • Experience at SHO level or above in General Medicine, Anaesthetics and Paediatrics - 1 point of each

Management and Leadership

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of engagement in running an Emergency Department
  • Evidence of engagement in quality improvement projects
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of quality improvement training
  • Evidence of management or leadership training
  • Evidence of leadership of multidisciplinary team

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of supervising trainees or non training doctors
  • Evidence of teaching

Research

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of involvement in research projects
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of ability to supervise postgraduate research

Personal Attributes
