Job overview
You would be working at the level of an F2 or CT1/ST1 in the ED with direct shop floor supervision from our 18 consultants and 7 experienced ED middle grades. The post offers protected weekly departmental teaching and benefits from educational supervision by a consultant as well as many other educational opportunities on shift. A typical day may see you involved in Stroke Thrombolysis, PPCI for STEMI, Trauma (as a busy Trauma Unit), acutely unwell medical and surgical patients as well as managing various Paediatrics complaints and Minor Injuries.
The job is full time but we welcome candidates considering less than full time to apply and discuss options. There is also the opportunity to work 80% clinical and spend 20% of your time on a special interest or project of your choosing.
We have an active CESR programme in the department and should candidates be considering becoming an emergency medicine consultant by CESR, this post would be a great jumping off point to subsequently apply for a CESR programme.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to assess patients, formulate a management plan and organise relevant investigations in a timely fashion. A senior will be on hand to provide guidance and will be checking in where necessary. You will also be expected to identify acutely unstable patients and raise this concern to seniors and then assist in stabilising these patients. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of patients with varying presenting complaints and of all ages and work in all areas of the department. It is a hugely interesting and rewarding job. You will have opportunities to perfect and learn various procedures relevant to Emergency Medicine. You will work within a multidisciplinary team within the department as well as liaise with different specialities and staff both medical and non-medical therefore good communication skills and team work are essential.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
- Full registration with a licence to practice with the GMC
- Completed two years foundation training or the CREST form requirements
Desirable criteria
- APLS, ATLS, ETC or other relevant course
Experience
Essential criteria
- 12-24 months of working post graduation at foundation level or above
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in an acute medical speciality at ST1 level or above
- Minimum of 12 months working in the NHS or equivalent healthcare system
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to perform the 15 core skills as per GMC requirements for foundation years
Desirable criteria
- Completed MRCEM or equivalent exam
