Job overview

The Paediatric Oncology Team care for Children and Young People with a variety of diagnoses across the hospital and community setting. We are a small multi-disciplinary team with some new financial support from Bath Cancer Unit Support Group. We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Nursing Associate to join our friendly team and deliver high quality care. This post is initially fixed term - 1 Year, subject to review.

The successful candidate will join an established, highly motivated team who are committed to delivering optimum care to children and young people aged 0-18, within the Paediatric Oncology setting and we will support you with ongoing training and development.

We work as a shared care oncology unit with our Primary treatment Centre Bristol Children's Hospital providing high quality local care in line with NHS England Shared Care guidance. We are involved in the running of clinical trials, quality improvement projects, data collection and surveys.

The Nursing Associate will work to Registered Nursing Associate nationally recognised Code of Conduct and Standards of Proficiency.  They will work with the multi professional team and the Registered Nurse to assess, plan, organise and deliver clinical care in line with service and patient needs, as agreed with supervising clinicians. The Nursing Associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing care and within all aspects of the nursing process.

Main duties of the job

The Nursing & Midwifery Council’s ‘Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates’ identifies the core components of the roles, responsibilities and accountabilities of Nursing Associates.  These pillars identify what nursing associates can contribute to the health and wellbeing of patients and service users, and apply across all health and care settings. Central to the provision of high quality person-centred care is the ability to communicate effectively, with sensitivity and compassion, and to manage relationships with people, making reasonable adjustments where necessary.
