Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medical Education

NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for 3 full-time posts from 6th August 2025 to 5th August 2026 in Undergraduate Medical Education.

These posts will have 7-8 fixed sessions in Undergraduate Medical Education with 2-3 sessions negotiable with successful candidate in a speciality of their choice.  There is no out of hour’s commitment with these posts.

These posts offer the opportunity to become intensively involved in medical and surgical education of our Bristol medical students, working in conjunction with local unit co-ordinators and tutors.  It would ideally suit someone currently in a ST post in a Medical or Surgical specialty that is looking for an ‘out of programme experience;’ the Severn Deanery has given permission for this to be recognised from one of their programmes.  It would also suit current F2 doctors with a particular interest in teaching.

You should be self -motivated and innovative to help develop this post, with a particular emphasis on using simulation in clinical teaching.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop competence in teaching
  • To support and develop the 2nd and 3rd and 5th year undergraduate teaching programmes, this includes the development of teaching materials and enhancement of learning within the clinical skills lab.
  • Develop teaching skills through studying for the Certificate in Medical Education
  • Act as a role model and junior mentor for students during their stay in Bath.
  • Contribute and participate in the assessment process for the 2nd, 3rd and final year medical students.
  • The post holder should be flexible, professional and co-operative within the evolving needs of the clinical academy.

Working for our organisation

Services are centred at the Royal United Hospital, which is the major District General Hospital, situated on the outskirts of Bath. The Bath Academy was founded in September 2004 and is based in the well-equipped hospital Education Centre which includes an excellent library and Simulation Centre.

This post offers the opportunity to become intensively involved in Medical and/or Surgical Education of Medical Students for a period of time whilst maintaining clinical exposure and experience in a supportive educational environment. The prime function of the post holder is as a teacher delivering core content and providing tutoring for medical students in years 3-5 of the undergraduate curriculum of Bristol University. Teaching will take place in a variety of forms: small group tutorials, larger group tutorials, skill based practical sessions, bedside clinical teaching and clinic based history and examination and simulation of clinical scenarios in the well-equipped Simulation Centre.
