Are you looking for the opportunity to develop and grow as a Band 6 Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Speciality?
We are looking to offer an experienced nurse the opportunity to work within the senior management team, who lead and support the hard working inpatient ward team to provide the best care and outcomes for their patient group.
This position is based on our orthopaedic trauma ward, B34 Forrester Brown, which is a 24 bedded, mixed sex ward, caring for patients who are presenting with traumatic orthopaedic injuries.
The orthopaedic specialty is dynamic, forward-thinking and constantly striving to improve the patient’s pathway. Within this orthopaedic team we have a commitment to the Trust and our patients who use our service.

Main duties of the job
> To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and
evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing
incorporating the Named Nurse initiative.
> To proactively co-ordinate the patients’ discharge arrangements in accordance with RUH Discharge Policy ensuring involvement of other agencies as necessary.
> To promote a patient focused enhanced recovery approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
> To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been
identified.
> To provide information thus enabling patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle.
> To ensure that all clinical documentation is completed correctly by members of the nursing team.
> To maintain a safe ward/department environment.
> To assist in the establishment and monitoring of protocols/care pathways.
> To promote and maintain effective communication within the ward/department, GPs and community staff and other hospitals with regard to ongoing patient care.
> To maintain patient confidentiality and ensure all staff understand the
relevance of this.
> To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care, through effective monitoring, mentoring, clinical supervision and reflective practice.
> To provide emergency cover, where possible, within the unit.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Part 1,2,12
- State Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Training in management / HR Diploma / Degree in relevant area
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice
- Understanding of equality & diversity and how to apply it to self and managed staff
- Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for the practice & behaviour of managed staff and self
- Understanding of the basic principles of effective budgetary management
- Understanding of the basic principles of effective staff management
- Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing knowledge & practice during working as a Band 5 registered nurse
- Regular experience of taking charge and delegating duties and problem solving throughout shifts
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Leadership
- Computer and IT Literacy Skills
- Minimum 3 years relevant clinical experience at Band 5
