Job overview

• To undertake a two year apprenticeship resulting in professional registration with the 
General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician 
• Complete all assessments and portfolio building meeting expected deadlines. 
• Work towards and pass the End Point Assessment as defined by the apprenticeship 
standards 
• To rotate through the department gaining experience in different aspects of the 
Pharmacy Service; in the Dispensary, Medicines Optimisation, the Lloyds Outpatients 
Pharmacy and Purchasing & Distribution, with the opportunity to gain knowledge in 
the following areas: Aseptic Services, Clinical Trials, Medicines Information and 
Homecare. 
• All duties will be carried out under the supervision of a senior colleague or Functional 
Head 
• Complete foundation competencies prior to professional registration with the GPhC. 

Main duties of the job

• Dispense prescriptions and signed orders for all medicines, according to relevant 
procedures to meet the needs of patients, including Compliance Aids and Controlled 
Drugs 
• Enter information on to hospital computer system to enable tracking of prescriptions (i.e. 
arrival and completion time) 
• File and store dispensary documentation appropriately 
• Maintain working stock levels and alert section managers to any stock problems 
encountered 
formulary guidelines to ensure medicines management to the required standards 
• Assist the Senior Pharmacy Technician in each section in undertaking workplace audits 
• Complete final accuracy checking on dispensed medicines or products in line with the 
Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship standards and standard 
operating procedures. 

• Assist in the issuing of prescriptions to patients/representatives in the Lloyds Outpatient 
Pharmacy under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist. 
MEDICINES OPTIMISATION 
• To participate in the Medicines Optimisation team, to provide patient centred care at 
ward level. This will include experience and training in medicines reconciliation, use of 
patients own drugs and managing patients medication requirements.

• Refer any queries or requests for information beyond your limitations to the appropriate 
person.
