Job overview

We are looking for a Group-work Facilitator to work with adults in Substance Misuse Recovery within the Acer Unit, Substance Misuse Recovery inpatient ward.

Are you motivated, enthusiastic and looking for a challenge? Do you have excellent communication skills, experience in running therapeutic groups / programmes, a positive attitude as well as a commitment to providing excellent care to individuals who are experiencing a wide range of mental health and emotional needs in substance misuse recovery?

Acer Unit is an inpatient Ward that supports the detoxification and/or stabilisation of adults with substance misuse needs offering both clinical interventions alongside a therapeutic programme of group-work and one-to-ones.

The Group-work facilitator role on Acer is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals that work to ensure that the clinical, environmental, social and emotional health care needs of our service users are met, working collaboratively and therapeutically with individuals to empower and support them in their journey through Substance Misuse Recovery to 'Having a Life worth Living'.

The team on Acer is committed to the continuing professional development of all staff and has a supportive training and supervision programme in place. We will support you with training, learning and development opportunities to develop your knowledge, abilities and skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced individual, skilled in developing, managing and running groups that will work alongside the ward Assistant Psychologist and other part time Group Facilitator in delivering our therapeutic group work programme.

The role requires an experienced individual who can quickly form and sustain therapeutic relationships with our service users to support them alongside of group work through providing 1:1 sessions and support.

The Acer Unit is the only inpatient unit within AWP dedicated to working with individuals with substance misuse needs. Individuals who often present with a complexity of needs including poor mental and physical health.

The Team is made up of Doctors, nurses, health care assistants and a assistant psychologist. 

The team work with and alongside the service users to promote an environment  based on a community focussed on recovery, wellbeing  and safety.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • • Significant experience of working in a substance misuse and / or mental health Settings.
  • • Significant demonstrable experience of running groups (in a clinical or social support setting).
  • • Demonstrable knowledge of substance misuse disorder presentations, symptoms and common treatment approaches, and evidence of a compassionate stance towards those who experience them
  • • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of Self-help/mutual aid (AA:NA:CA) / programmes in which service users can engage and support their ongoing recovery
  • • Team-working skills, and ability to function effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Excellent communication skills
