As the Head of Improvement you will have the ability to work at the forefront of improvement knowledge by interpreting national guidance and applying your expertise to lead the Improvement Hub Team to oversee the development, delivery and application of the Improvement Practice at RUH.

To succeed you will demonstrable experience of leading transformational change in a complex organisation, with a track record of achievement for local people and ability to learn, reflect and develop. You utilise your knowledge of improvement A3s and other relevant project management methods/tools to provide assurance on progress, escalation and cascade mechanisms.

As an individual you will build confidence internally and externally through the use of highly effective interpersonal and communications skills to develop positive relationships regarding strategic objectives and the use of the Improvement Practice to support performance improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • Key responsibilities include leading the planning and operational delivery of the Trust Improvement Programme and overall management of the Improvement Hub team to include appropriate deployment to facilitate delivery of agreed plans and objectives.
  • The postholder will work proactively with the Associate Director of Improvement and Deputy Medical Director (Transformation) across the organisation and wider system, overseeing the development of the annual Improvement Programme and playing a key role in delivery of the 3 year Improvement Practice development plan. This will also include the development of system for improvement across the system partners
  • Lead the planning and organisation of the Trust Improvement Programme and make a significant contribution to the development of the 3 Year Improvement Practice development plan, in conjunction with the Associate Director of Improvement and Deputy Medical Director (Transformation). This will entail significant discussion and planning across the whole organisation, making a significant contribution to the development of key organisational strategies.

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Management/leadership qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of leading transformational change in a complex health and/or social care or other public sector organisation, with a track record of concrete achievement for local people and ability to learn, reflect and develop
  • Demonstrably constructive and positive experience of working in partnership with other organisations at a senior level, solving problems and achieving shared goals
  • Evidence of in-depth business management skills e.g. financial management performance management, information systems and staff management
  • In-depth professional knowledge of Improvement methodology acquired over a significant period consolidated through experience of undertaking improvement in healthcare organisations.

Specific Skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain trust, confidence and credibility with a wide range of backgrounds
  • Ability to manage conflict and to enable constructive outcome to emerge from conflict in the short or medium term
