Reports to:  Dr Mitesh Khakhar, Clinical Lead for Anaesthesia.

Tenure:  Fixed 12 months initially.

Hours:  Full time – 12 PA (48 hours per week average), including 1 SPA, and on-calls.  Applications for LTFT working are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking enthusiastic specialty doctors in anaesthesia to work at the Trust’s Musgrove Park Hospital site.  The ideal candidate will have 4 years of broad experience across the specialty including obstetrics and intensive care.  Candidates must have completed minimum Core/Stage 1 Anaesthesia training, or equivalent, though we encourage and support candidates wishing to progress their careers further.  This post may suit individuals who wish to settle long-term in one location, or someone who seeks to gain more experience before applying for a Specialty Training number.

The post is offered full-time based on 12 PAs (48 hours per week on average).  Applications are welcomed from candidates wishing to work less than full time.  The post is a mixture of daytime, elective anaesthesia plus resident nights on-call.  The successful candidate will participate in the middle grade rota, covering obstetrics and/or ICU overnight.  There will be opportunities for evening sessions or twilights shifts, depending on capability and experience.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently though consultant support is always available.  The elective clinical work may be adjusted to suit your skills and experience across the typical range of specialties in a major district general hospital, but also specialist services such as vascular, bariatrics and spines.
