NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Our award winning trusts recognise that our colleagues are our most valuable resource, we are proud of the excellent levels of service our Trust provides to our service users and the dedication and conscientiousness of our colleagues. With over 10,000 colleagues working for our trusts in a very wide range of services, we aim to provide a supportive, inclusive environment in which our colleagues can thrive.

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our well-established team delivering the Orthodontic service in Somerset.

This is a permanent, but flexible consultant appointment to deliver between 4 PAs and 10 PAs per week. The days the sessions are delivered is negotiable. We are also offering a competitive relocation package for the right applicant.

This is a newly created post that offers the benefits of moving into an experienced department, which is multi-specialty including: restorative dentistry, maxillofacial and oral surgery; while enjoying plentiful opportunities for professional development. Working with a team of two other consultants, two specialty doctors and a trainee therapist. There are numerous opportunities for mentoring and knowledge sharing.

We have also developed a great working partnership with the University of Bristol Dental Hospital.

Main duties of the job

We expect that you will join the team to provide a full range of orthodontic services, including taking an active role in the various MDTs. We currently hold MDTs for orthognathic and oral surgery patients, and a restorative MDT for the management of hypodontia. We are also open to hearing how we can complement our Orthodontic service with new skills and specialist interests in line with NHSE and the Commissioning Group’s framework of services.

The trust can also offer you a sabbatical built into your contract. This comprises of 3 months every 5 years. Although unpaid leave, it is built into the salary, meaning you will get paid 57/60ths every month; so by the time you get to the three months, you will be paid as well.

Working for our organisation

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, market leading annual leave allowance, career progression and regular conversations, not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone’s throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan – there is truly something for everyone!
