Consultant Psychiatrist - North Somerset Hospital Liaison

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Are you looking for your next role as a dynamic clinical leader in Acute Hospital Mental Health Liaison?

Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist, or a Higher Specialist Trainee within 6 months of their CCT, who is dedicated and passionate about improving mental health services and addressing the current lack of parity of esteem between mental and physical health?

The Hospital Liaison Service is based at Weston General Hospital, North Somerset.  It provides a service within the Emergency Department as well as the hospital wards, primarily to support general hospital staff in providing appropriate care to those with mental distress.

This is a small District General Hospital with approximately 220 beds and an Emergency Department open from 8am to 10pm.   The hospital is part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

North Somerset is located at the gateway to the South West and offers the best of seaside and country living combined with the benefits of being close to the vibrant cities of Bristol, Bath and Exeter. It has easy travel routes to Devon, Cornwall, South Wales, London and beyond via the M4 and M5, a central train station in Weston-Super-Mare, with frequent services to Bristol, as well as direct services to London; with interconnecting local stations across the area. It is situated close to Bristol Airport.

Main duties of the job

As the consultant in the Mental Health Liaison Service, you will provide medical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team serving Weston General Hospital.

You will provide diagnostic and treatment advice as well as supporting the wider team in complex and high risk case management.  You will have a key clinical leadership role, with service improvement and development, alongside the team manager.   In addition there is a significant teaching and training aspect to this role, for general hospital staff.

North Somerset Locality has a forward-thinking and inclusive medical community, committed to ensuring psychiatrists are at the forefront of service improvement. We are passionate about your development and in supporting you to achieve your career aspirations, with a pledge to provide 2.5 Programmed Activities in the first year, protected time, for Supporting Professional Activities. You will be encouraged and supported to be involved in service leadership and management; as well as any quality improvement activities which you will be encouraged to pursue.  We offer one of the most competitive and flexible benefits packages.
