Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time (23 hours per week) Band 6 Junior Sister on Harptree Ward.

Harptree Ward is  a 27 bedded unit providing care for patients requiring cardiology, endocrinology and medical services. It offers acute care for patients within the Weston catchment area and works closely with the acute specialist services based on our sister site in Bristol, to offer patients the best service possible.

We work closely as a multi -disciplinary team to optimise patients' treatment and facilitate a timely planned discharge.

Harptree ward offers high standards of compassionate care to its patients and a proactive learning environment to its staff and students.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate can expect to have the opportunity for career development. They will be given support and training to develop leadership and management skills and will be responsible for looking after a small group of staff. There are opportunities to develop your assessment skills as the Trust supports a wide range of training opportunities.

The successful candidate will be proactive in improving patient safety and driving standards of care forward. Have excellent nursing skills and be proactive in the care and management they provide to their patients.

Your main role as a Band 6 is to co-ordinate the workforce and patient admissions and discharges on a shift ward whilst maintaining the safety of patients throughout this process. This is a challenging but rewarding role and the applicant must have excellent communication and problem solving skills. Have the ability to adapt to changing situations when under pressure.

The successful candidate will be flexible, a good team worker, bring with them a passion to excel and ensure high standards are adhered to and exceeded and be innovative within a team environment.

As a Band 6 nurse, you will be expected to manage Datix incidents, appraisals, absences and audits alongside the Ward Manager, as part of the Senior Nursing Team on Harptree.

  • NMC registered adult nurse
  • RGN 1st Level

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Medical and or Endocrinology/ Cardiology Nursing
  • Knowledge of current issues in the NHS

  • Competent at advanced nursing practice appropriate to area
