Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time (37.5 hours) Band 4 Enhanced Care Team Leader at Weston General Hospital.

The Enhanced Care Team is made up of healthcare support workers who have additional skills to look after patients who have dementia, or challenging behaviours and who will supervise and engage with patients who might be at risk of falling, require extra support to adjust to their surroundings or would benefit from additional interaction.

 

Main duties of the job

The Team Leader will lead and support the team of activities assistants which provide enhanced supervision.  The post holder is required to produce duty rosters and allocate the team members to individual patients ensuring the provision of a high quality service to identified patients.  The team leader will also provide day to day line management of the team. In addition to this, the post holder will also undertake the role of the Senior Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW).

The Senior HCSW is a member of the direct care team supporting practitioners to meet patient needs. They are responsible for providing care and therapy to patients as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN) or appropriate team leader.

A Senior HCSW will be expected to undertake a range of duties under the direction of a RN and will be required to report back on those delegated duties to a RN. This will include supporting patients under Enhanced Observation.

The Senior HCSW will be competent to provide compassionate care to agreed quality standards. They will continue to develop further skills, knowledge and competencies that will be determined within the clinical nursing team through ongoing assessment and the needs of the ward/service to deliver patient care.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3/ QCF Level 3 in Health or Social Care or equivalent or working towards
  • GCSE A*- C in both English Language and Mathematics or equivalent in these two subjects e.g. Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has substantial evidence of experience as a nursing/care assistant in a health or social care setting, either public, private or voluntary sector
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital setting
  • Experience of managing a team

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication skills, verbally and written
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
