Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of leading the financial and economic appraisal process for business cases.
Significant experience of working in a large complex organisation at a senior level.
Experience of preparing complex financial information for bids, involving working with both internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of the HMT Business Case process and guidance.
Experience of financial planning, both long and short term and including the development of complex financial modelling information for executive teams.
Significant staff management experience.
Significant IT experience, including the utilisation of Excel to prepare complex financial inforamtion.

Desirable criteria

Experience of providing finance support on large strategic projects.
Experience of working in an NHS provider organisation.
Experience of using NHS England's long-term financial model (LTFM).

Eligibility/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria

Qualified accountant (CCAB) with significant post qualification experience.
Masters level qualification or significant senior experience.
Evidence of CPD

Desirable criteria

Better business case foundation and/or practitioner trained.

Interpersonal Skills

Essential criteria

Communicates effectively with all levels of staff both verbally and in writing. This includes both internal and external stakeholders from both Finance and Non-finance backgrounds.
Needs to be dynamic and in addition to providing financial support, needs to be able to participate in the discussion of ideas and plans.
Ability to work as part of the senior finance management team and providing leadership to the department.

Organisational Skills

Essential criteria

Analyse, interpret and report upon financial and non-financial information.
Apply technical knowledge.
Think wider than just finance.
To effectively challenge systems, processes, business cases etc. to ensure value for money is delivered.
Organise demanding workload with competing priorities to achieve deadlines.
Ability to question and learn quickly.
