Specialist Dietitian - Weight Management (Tier 3 service)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist dietitian to join our Tier 3 weight management team of Dietitians, Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapist and support staff across Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This forward thinking and proactive department would welcome applicants with an interest in specialising in weight management. The post holder is a key member of the MDT team in supporting patients to achieve sustainable lifestyle changes and to facilitate patients progression to Tier 4 bariatric services . The post will also involve supervising Dietetic assistants within the service and working alongside the Tier 4 bariatric service.

We are looking for a dynamic team player who is highly efficient, consistently produces a high standard of work and can work to deadlines. 

We are able to provide support to complete a Non-Medical Prescribing course and encourage other training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based primarily at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with travel to Bassetlaw hospital and Montagu Hospital Mexborough. 

  • Providing a dietetic service to a caseload of patients using evidence based patient centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate dietetic interventions.
  • Actively contribute to specialist MDTs
  • Overcomes barriers to communication and acceptance and plays a role in developing educational resources for patient use.
  • Sharing the role of developing and delivering training packages to staff, other health professionals and group education programmes for patients in the area of weight management. 
  • Taking responsibility for ensuring own continuing professional development, and actively participating in the Trust’s clinical governance programme through audit and research activities

Essential criteria
  • Qualified as a registered dietitian
  • Good clinical knowledge in general dietetics
  • Understanding of professional ethics and application in practice
  • Willingness to maintain evidence of ongoing CPD
  • 12 months post registration experience in obesity / weight management
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience of working in a variety of settings
  • Evidence of post registration CPD
  • Experience of training dietetic students
  • Experience of supervising Dietetic Assistants
  • Education and research skills
  • Experience of working as part of a specialist MDT
  • Development and delivery of group education to patients / health care professionals

Eligibility/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Dietetics or Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics or working towards
  • Relevant Post Registration training
  • HCPC UK Registered Dietitian
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical supervisory course
  • Post graduate study in appropriate clinical and non-clinical areas
  • Membership of the British Dietetic Association
  • Membership of relevant special interest groups
  • Keyboard and internet skills, experience of using system 1.
  • Non medical prescribing qualification
