Job overview

The Radiology Breast Imaging Service is looking to recruit a new clinical assistant. You will be joining the imaging team at the Jasmine Centre in DRI, offering clinical support and providing high quality patient-focused care.  It will involve dealing with patients, public and staff at all levels. You will provide support to radiographers and radiologist’s, which can involve dealing with patients who are very ill or distressed, therefore good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Your role will be to provide assistance for imaging procedures and undertake/support some clerical duties within the mammography department. 

Due to the sensitive nature of this post, only female applicants will be considered (this provision applies under Section 7(2)(b) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975).

 

 

Main duties of the job

Maintain high standards of patient care and comfort including, support of patients when undergoing interventional procedures, helping with changing, and hygiene needs   

To provide support to the radiology service, workload management and assisting in the clinical environment to provide optimum patient care.

To set up trolleys for imaging procedures both sterile and non-sterile, using guidelines given.

To assist the Radiologists, Radiographers and Sonographers in specialist sessions, taking responsibility for patient care throughout the examination by observing, and assisting and comforting when necessary.  To apply dressings after interventional procedures and give aftercare advice to patients where necessary.

To deal with verbal and telephone requests and to send images electronically to other hospitals.

To deal effectively with patients in the breast-imaging department, and to maintain a professional demeanour in potentially distressing circumstances.

To maintain stock levels

To care for and comfort patients and relatives before, during, and after imaging procedures.

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a caring profession
  • Experience of supporting clinical work
  • Computer literate - must be able to input data; update appointment and attendance information
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working for NHS
  • Experience of working in a clinical setting / medical environment

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English Language & Maths (Grade C or above) or equivalent qualification / relevant experience. or NVQ level 2
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3
  • Care certificate
  • Awareness of rules around guidance regarding IR(ME)R

Interpersonal Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills with multi-disciplinary team/patients/relatives

  • Able to maintain client confidentiality
