Job overview

This is a Band 6 Role, however development to a band 6 from and band 5 may be considered depending on experience.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking and dynamic Learning Disability Nurse to join our specialist service.

We are a small, supportive multi-disciplinary team which values supervision and professional development as well as person-centred care.

The service is community and family focussed providing assessment, intervention, advice and support to children with complex needs arising from intellectual disability, autism, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

You will be a Registered Nurse in learning disabilities and have experience of working with people with a dual diagnosis of learning disabilities and mental health difficulties with children and young people.

You will have experience of providing support and assessment to parents/carers of young people with intellectual disabilities.

You will need to be able to manage a caseload, with support, and have the ability to establish good working relationships with children, young people and their families.

Experience in mental health and/or challenging behaviour will be an advantage when applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Registered Nurse in learning disabilities and have experience of working with people with a dual diagnosis of learning disabilities and mental health difficulties with children and young people. This may be from your current role or from your student placements.

Please ensure you meet the essential requirements for this position before applying.

You must have access to transport and be able to travel around the required geographical area.

The post will require the relevant disclosure check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Applications from current employees who may be placed at risk as a result of organisational change/financial constraints or who have a fixed term contract with more than two years’ service will be given preferential consideration provided they are able to demonstrate in their application that they meet the essential criteria for this post.

The successful applicant will be expected to be proficient and competent in direct and brief interventions, providing assessment, consultation and basic therapy to children and young people and their families. You will receive the assistance and support of your colleagues within the CAMHS Intellectual Disability Team.
