Job overview

We are looking  to recruit highly motivated positive health visitors to join our  forward thinking 0 -19 service. They will work in a skill mix team in partnership with children, families, individuals, groups and communities to provide and maintain high quality effective healthcare, to prevent ill health, promote positive health and reduce health inequalities.

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • The health visitor has  responsibility for continuous health needs assessment of the client/family developing a systematic approach to planning and implementing public health interventions based on identified need.

  • To work with families in a variety of settings including home visits, providing evidence based advice and support.

  • To deliver an equitable service to all families. 
  • To actively participate in health promotion programmes as directed by the high impact areas and national policies including promotion and delivery of immunisation programmes and breast feeding initiatives.
  • To provide a universal plus/ universal partnership plus service  within a skill mix team to vulnerable groups, planning effective care for families and individuals..
  • To prescribe when appropriate using the Nurse Prescribing Formulary.
  • Participate in regular and thorough assessment of risks, and effective management action to avoid or reduce risks to self and those staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To comply with the NMC and Trust guidelines, policy and procedures in respect of professional standards e.g. record keeping, complying with NMC guidelines and relevant legislation.
  • To comply with NMC requirements for re-registration and re-validation.
  • To be an active participant in supervision processes in respect of :
  • Nurse Prescribing
  • Child protection
  • General case load management
  • To maintain professional knowledge, skills and expertise through continual personal and professional development.
  • To apply contemporary, theoretical knowledge regarding safeguarding and child in need to heath visiting practice. To ensure local safeguarding policy and procedures are followed. 
  • To maintain and update knowledge around safeguarding. Ensure that practice complies with local and national policies and legislation regarding children in need and children at risk.
  • To be an active participant in child in need meetings, case conferences and core groups. To produce reports in relation to safeguarding.
  • To attend regular safeguarding supervision and training.
  • Adhere to both local and national Safeguarding Procedures, Policies and Guidelines.
  • To work with Child Health Policy and contribute as appropriate to the policy review process.
  • To undertake caseload/area profiling identifying health needs and promote programmes as appropriate that assist in addressing individual, family and community health needs.
  • To actively participate in education and training, audit and research to ensure that high standards of clinical practice are maintained within the clinical governance framework.
  • Fulfil responsibilities defined within the managerial policies, guidelines and strategies 
  • Participate in Professional Practice Audits
  • To act as a mentor to student nurses in order to consolidate theoretical and practical teachings for learners.
  • To participate in the orientation and induction of new staff.

  • Basic level of computer literacy and IT skills.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting).
  • Registered nurse or midwife
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of Mentoring Training
  • Teaching or Health Promotion Qualification
  • Leadership Training.
  • Nurse Prescribing Certificate
